Maricel Jiménez Peña was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She began writing at a very early age and showed an inclination towards poetry and fantasy from the very beginning. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2000 with a degree in psychology from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez where she participated in several literature and creative writing courses and workshops. In 1998, she obtained 3rd place in an English short fiction creative writing competition at the University with her short story “The Plebiscite”. In 2010, she was a finalist at the En Rojo Micro Fiction competition with “Preludio”.

After 2002 Maricel became a mother and began diving into the word of YA and Middle Grade Fantasy Adventures. She found her niche. Very at home in magical lands with witches, dragons, elves, and fairies, Maricel quickly began researching the myths behind these stories and soon found herself writing her own. Her first Middle Grade fantasy adventure series: The Adventures of Pixie Piper debuted in March 2015 with the first volume: A Fairy’s Breath, followed in 2017 with Book 2: The Trove of the Water Dragon.

Maricel currently lives in Puerto Rico with her two sons and attempts to grow organic food in her balcony, including a pineapple!

When not writing or digging through dirt she likes to pretend she is a circus performer/ballerina and takes aerial silks and ballet classes. The only thing better than writing is dancing. If you play it, she will dance…
